Okay, stop judging. I grew up with this show. I was 18 years old when I decided what college I wanted to go to and this was based off of: The OC, The Hills, and okay, yes, my college was a great school too with a beautiful campus.
Being from Texas, I didn’t even know that there was a difference between Norcal and Socal. So to my surprise, when I arrived in Norcal, there were no bonfires on the beach every day, you actually had to work really hard to get good grades, it was FREEZING, and nothing was really like the shows us Texans saw on TV.
FAST FORWARD. I am 30 now so feel free to laugh at my 18 year old self, because I sure am. But it’s adorable and nostalgic and sometimes--growing up, shows can be a part of what mold us into who we become or who we think we want to become. Both a little scary but also kind of cute to look back on.
That being said, let’s discuss the latest revival of The Hills: New Beginnings.
I. AM. SO. HAPPY. TO. SEE. THAT. ALMOST. EVERYONE. IS. THE. SAME.
I still remember watching the finale of that season, my senior year of college with some friends in my tiny studio apartment, and wondering what would ever happen to them.
Some of them grew up, some of them didn’t. Most didn’t but they just added babies or marriage or crystal businesses to the mix. I’m not even going to go there about Spencer and Heidi’s biz: “Pratt Daddy Crystals.” Could you think of any other name that would be more fitting for something like that?! Ridiculously awful. Let’s think about this again. PRATT. DADDY. CRYSTALS. Ahhhhh I can’t.
And I LOVE crystals, so this is just an abomination, but of course I can’t stop watching. Other reflections: poor Brody, what his mother and him and his entire family had to go through for decades of Caitlyn (Bruce Jenner) not being there for them, not supporting them, canceling on going to Brody’s wedding a week before, not being there for Brody’s music debut. I mean….thank God Brody has such a wonderful support system of friends and family and his wife around him even without his dad.
Other observations:
Audrina and Justin: are you guys doing this on purpose?! I’m pretty sure we’ve seen these exact dynamics since like 10, 20, 80 years ago.
Speidi: you do you because it provides great entertainment…
Stephanie: I liked you until you bashed Audrina in Vegas and humiliated her thinking she was crazy for thinking something was going on between you and JUSTIN BOBBY
MISCHA BARTON: YOU ARE MY SPIRIT ANIMAL. I have SO much respect for you, the way you stood up to a bully like Perez Hilton, the way you have handled yourself through all of this drama so far, and you are GORGEOUS. You are by far my favorite person this season. It’s like I get a double dose of nostalgia all in one.
Were there others? I didn’t notice. Jk. I’m just tired and will discuss more after next weeks episode! What have you thought of the revival so far?
