This is the one show (out of many, MANY that I watch) that I literally can’t wait for each week. I almost wish that since it’s a Hulu original series, it’ll follow what Netflix Originals due (like House of Cards) where they release the entire season at once. However, that is not the case. So week after week, I find myself refreshing hulu.com waiting and waiting for the latest episode to be posted.

I’m serious, it’s that good.

I mean, you know that with the talent of Aaron Paul and Hugh Dancy, you’re going to get some pretty badass TV.

To give you the rundown, The Path is about a cult that follows someone named Stephen Meyer, who wrote a book and essentially wrote the religion which he calls “The Light.” The story follows three main characters: Sarah (Michelle Monaghan), Cal (Hugh Dancy), and Eddie (Aaron Paul). Sarah and Eddie are married and have two children, but she was originally supposed to end up with Cal, so there’s a lot of third wheel tension there, to say the least. To make things even more complicated, Cal is the leader of their cult location (they have multiple locations throughout the U.S.)

The cult will literally drive in to areas that have been devastated by terrorism, storms, whatever it may be that leaves people needing food, water, shelter, and comfort. They prey on the vulnerable. If I were a cult leader, I’d totally do the same. I mean DAMN DANIEL, what a great idea to recruit more people to your psycho religion!

Each person living on the cult grounds (which actually look quite lovely, they have beautiful gardens, amazing homes, friendship, family, support, food, even alcohol….but I digress…)

So each person has some sort of background story to tell about how the cult…ahem, I’m sorry, The Light/The Path, saved their life. Whether they experienced death, drug addiction, homelessness, whatever it may be, this cult, this new family they have, saved their life. And I’m sorry if I sound like a crazy person, but this show is making cult life sound more and more appealing by the second.

However...

Eddie (Aaron Paul) is starting to have doubts. He starts to question the entire movement and finds this girl who fled the cult and believes her husband was killed because he started having doubts. However, they rule his death as a suicide. She is trying to find some sort of justice for what happened to him, and her and Aaron start working together on revealing what this cult is really about.

Then, Sarah catches Eddie meeting this same girl at a cheap motel, and although it was just to discuss further plans, she obviously assumes he is cheating on her.

Take a breath before reading this next part, because it’s pretty crazy.

Cue the following: Eddie thinks instead of admitting he’s looking into the cult, he will admit to fake cheating on her—then go into some creepy jail cell type of room where they give him drugs and for two weeks he is locked in there going insane as a little person tells him and constantly recites “the Ladder” which are the steps of the religion that you can “achieve.”

He comes out a changed man and is determined to “make things right” with his family. He still has not told his wife that he didn’t actually cheat, but you can tell he’s not the same curious doubting person that he was at the beginning of the show. I miss that person! But I also understand him wanting to try to protect his family. Especially when he has someone as hot as Hugh Dancy constantly hitting on his wife.

Dear LORD, can we please talk about how sexy Hugh Dancy’s voice is?! It took me two episodes and it was driving me crazy until I finally realized he is from another one of my absolute favorite shows—Hannibal. I do miss his adorable curly hair though...

ANYWAY, there is a ton more I could say about this show, and I will in more blogs to come, but this will hopefully give you a good start! I can’t wait to see the next episodes and to go deeper into this absolutely amazing show and see how the characters develop.

Thanks for reading! Until next time...
