Wayward Pines is by far one of my absolute favorite shows on TV. I was so upset when I heard that they would be ending after one season but I am unbelievably happy that they decided to bring it back for another.
(Do not read below if you don’t want spoilers)
Here is my way of describing Wayward Pines in just a few sentences in a way that makes me sound like a crazy person or like I’m describing something like the show LOST.
So, this guy that works in the secret service goes to Wayward Pines for work/an investigation and his wife and son can’t find him and don’t hear from him for days but little do we know that many years have passed and that humans have evolved into creatures called Abbies which David Finch, an evolutionist, predicted-- so Finch decided to take a select part of the population and convince them that they had all gotten into car accidents and were just waking up when really he froze them for years for their own protection and built a happy idyllic somewhat too creepily perfect of a town for everyone to live in when unfrozen and just doesn’t let people leave and throws them a free house and puts them into some random job and no one is allowed to talk about the past or escape and there are executions or “reckonings” for those that do so because of course there are microphones and cameras every square inch of town, and the only people that know about the Abbies and that the world came to an end are the young generation that are taught it in school but they are also told to not tell their parents or anyone else simply because older generations are too attached to the reality of the outside world so much so that they would either kill themselves or rebel against each other or try to leave the walls of wayward pines convinced that there HAD to be someone out there and that their home and their families were still there somewhere.
PHEW!!!! Okay, so that is the longest run-on sentence I’ve ever written but it was my best way of describing this insane show.
Truly, I’ve always held a soft spot in my heart for M. Night Shyamalan, even though his movies (other than Signs) have been pretty terrible. That’s another reason why I was beyond happy that this show has become such a success. Now, I’m just waiting for his guest appearance that he tends to do in his movies...I'm sure we'll see him at some point this season.
So, in preparation for tonight's season two premiere, you have a rushed synopsis version of what the show is about and what to prepare for in season two.
Finally, here are my random theories for season 2:
The next generation has taken over the town and are in control now (but they’ve made it even more violent and worse than waking up to the Season 1 version of Wayward Pines)
Greater awareness of the “Truth” (AKA what’s out there in what is left of the world, and what happened in between)
More encounters with the Abbies
An even more cult-like experience in the town
The older original generation dying out
That's all for now...I have to pour a glass of wine and start the premiere! Let me know what you think in the comments below!
Happy watching!
